Project Overview
Location: Hoover (Jefferson County)
The proposed project is located on I-459 in the City of Hoover in Jefferson County. The project proposes to reconstruct the existing concrete pavement from Lorna Road to west of Little Shades Creek. In addition, an auxiliary lane will be built from Exit 15 (the I-65 Interchange) to Exit 17 (Acton Road) on both the northbound and southbound side. No additional right-of-way will be needed to complete the project.
There is the potential that the ramps to I-65 will be temporarily closed during construction. If required, a detour route is proposed in both directions via US-31 at I-65 (Exit 252) to AL-119 over to I-65 (Exit 246). A map showing the detour route can be found in the Project Maps section below.
Additionally, during construction of the auxiliary lanes, contraflow will be used to reduce traffic delays. Contraflow is a traffic management strategy that reverses the flow of one or more lanes on a divided highway, allowing them to carry traffic in the opposite direction. Additional detour and traffic advisories will be provided as necessary.
The purpose of this public involvement meeting is to inform the public of the design features for the project. ALDOT is interested in obtaining input from the people who use this route.
