Online and In-person Public Involvement: Widening and Bridge Replacement on AL-69

Online and In-person Public Involvement: Widening and Bridge Replacement on AL-69

Project Overview

Location: Cullman (Cullman County)

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is developing a widening project along AL-69 (US-278). The proposed project is located in Cullman City and East Point, Cullman County, Alabama. The project will include the bridge replacement and widening of AL-69 from 4th Avenue West to East Point. This roadway section is currently two (2) lanes. The project proposes adding a lane in the eastbound direction as well as adding a lane in the westbound direction. Additional right of way (ROW) will be required.

The proposed project will serve to increase capacity to handle existing and projected traffic demand and provide continuity for the section of AL-69 (US-278) between 4th Avenue and College Hill Drive and to alleviate conflicting left turn movements generated by numerous side streets and commercial driveways along US-278 between College Hill Drive and the diversion of US-278 and AL-69 in East Point.

The purpose of this public involvement meeting is to inform the public of the design features for the project. ALDOT is interested in obtaining input from the people who use this route.

All comments regarding this project must be submitted on or before Friday, August 21, 2026.
