Online Public Involvement: Bridge Replacement on AL-17 Online Public Involvement: Bridge Replacement on AL-17

Project Overview

Location: York (Sumter County)

This project is located on AL-17 south of the Town of York in Sumter County. The project proposes to replace the existing bridge over Alamuchee Creek and Toomsuba Creek. This project will address the aging infrastructure and functional deficiencies of the existing bridges with modern bridges that meet current design standards. The bridges were constructed in 1938 and do not meet today’s standards due to the narrow width of the existing bridges. The new bridge will be constructed on the existing alignment. The approach roadways will be closed to through traffic during construction and a recommended detour will be signed to include AL-8 (US-80) and I-59/I-20. Additional right of way will be needed to implement the proposed improvements.

The purpose of this public involvement meeting is to inform the public of the design features for the project. The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is interested in obtaining input from the people who use this route.
