Online and In-person Public Involvement: McFarland Blvd Improvements

Project Overview

Location: Tuscaloosa (Tuscaloosa County)

The Federal Highway Administration, in cooperation with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), are updating the environmental studies for an 11.2-mile corridor along McFarland Boulevard/US-82 from Rose Boulevard in Northport to east of Jug Factory Road in Tuscaloosa. Portions of corridor are completed or currently under construction. In conjunction with improvements to McFarland Boulevard, ALDOT proposes to replace the historic Woolsey Finnell Bridge with a more modern structure to handle future traffic demands in Tuscaloosa. The proposal would include ramp modifications at Jack Warner Parkway and Campus Drive and upgrading McFarland Boulevard with additional lanes, signal optimization, access management and bicycle/pedestrian improvements from Rice Mine Rd to west of University Blvd. The total length of the project is approximately 1.4 miles.

Two historic resources will be affected by this project: Bryce Cemetery and the Woolsey Finnell Bridge. Both resources are eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Click here for more information on the historic resources.

The purpose of this public involvement meeting is to inform the public of the design features for the project. ALDOT is interested in obtaining input from the people who use this route. Thank you for visiting our website.

ALDOT is conducting online and in-person public involvement for the proposed project. All comments regarding this project must be submitted on or before Friday, May 31, 2024
